Torrance Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Group is the only practice in the South Bay that offers a comprehensive aquatic therapy program, held in a state-of-the-art aquatic facility in Torrance. This type of therapy unifies the healing properties of water and traditional physical therapy techniques to assist with rehabilitation.
Aquatic therapy exercises muscles under water, a setting that provides light resistance while increasing range of motion, balance, and improving strength and function. For patients who need to rehabilitate a part of the body without putting too much weight on it, aquatic therapy offers the buoyancy needed to perform exercises with less pain or discomfort.
Our aquatic team is composed of a physical therapist and aides who are CPR certified. Aquatic therapy sessions take place in a pain-free, stress-free and warm atmosphere. The enclosed pool is heated to 90 degrees to promote muscle relaxation and increase blood flow to the joints, and in this warm, comfortable environment patients can move with less pain in the ways that they are unable to move on land. Aquatic therapy is appropriate for most patients' abilities and stages of rehabilitation.
A prescription is necessary from a Torrance Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Group physician for aquatic therapy in our program. Please discuss with your physician if aquatic therapy is appropriate for you.
