Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to stabilize mid- to low-back compression fractures. These are often painful and deforming fractures that benefit from surgery. The Torrance Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Group board certified spine surgeons perform this specialized technique by inserting a balloon into the compressed area, inflating the balloon, then removing it. The resulting empty cavity is filled with bone cement, which stabilizes and may heighten the compressed area. Although patients afflicted with arthritis or a spinal deformity can develop these kinds of compression fractures, the help of our experienced spine surgeons can improve their lives.
